Sectional Soccer

Boys

MSU Academy 3, Nicholas County 1

SUMMERSVILLE — Jason Holley scored two goals to lead MSU Academy to the win in the Region 3, Section 2 tournament.

John Kirkpatrick added a goal and assist for the Falcons. Brian Rucker also had an assist.

Keeper Zach Rizzi had 15 saves for MSU Academy.

The Falcons take on Woodrow Wilson at 8 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.



Girls

Oak Hill 1, Nicholas County 1 (Oak Hill wins in shootout)

HICO — Emily Pino scored the only goal in a shootout to help Oak Hill advance in the Region 3, Section 2 tournament.

Sam Hogan scored in regulation for Oak Hill. Keeper Amanda Wriston saved four of the Grizzlies’ shootout shots. She also had seven saves in regulation.

Oak Hill (7-5-6) plays Midland Trail Thursday at Midland Trail.



Midland Trail 3, Riverside 0

HICO — Courtney Cooper, Sarah Legg and Mehgan Barker scored goals as Midland Trail advanced in the Region 3, Section 2 tournament.

Legg and Barker each had an assist.

The shutout was the 12th of the year for Sam Blume.

Midland Trail takes on Oak Hill at 7 p.m. Thursday at Midland Trail.



James Monroe 7, Wyoming East 0

LINDSIDE — James Monroe advanced in the Region 3, Section 3 playoffs with a win over the Warriors.

Cassie Gillespie and Holly Jackson scored two goals apiece for the Mavericks, while Melissa Thomas, Valerie Perrine and Brooke Hobson contributed a goal each.

Keeper Susan Vest defended two shots on goal for James Monroe.

The Mavericks (12-4-2) play Princeton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at James Monroe.



Greenbrier East 4, Shady Spring 0

Courtney Cole scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Spartans over Shady Spring in the Region 3, Section 4 tournament.

Dani Pierce added a goal and an assist for Greenbrier East while Mary Deem fired in the final goal.

Keeper Kate Bowling had three saves and defended five shots on goal for the Spartans.

The Tigers’ Dana Lilly had five saves in goal.

Greenbrier East plays Woodrow Wilson at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Region 3, Section 4 playoffs at the YMCA soccer complex in Beckley.
