Women's Soccer: Weekly Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will head into postseason play ranked in the Top 25 for the fourth-straight season.

The highest nod of the week for Mountaineers, who earned a first round bye in the BIG EAST quarterfinal, comes from SoccerBuzz, a No. 15 ranking. West Virginia is currently ranked 18th by Soccer America and is the No. 19 team in the NSCAA poll.

West Virginia has been ranked in at least one major poll for 39 of the past 41 weeks; a time period spanning four complete seasons.

Also announced today was West Virginia senior Marisa Kanela’s selection to the BIG EAST honor roll for the week. The Wantagh, N.Y., native closed out the regular season with a five-point performance over the weekend. Kanela assisted the Mountaineers’ only goal at Connecticut and then scored twice in WVU’s 3-0 win at Providence.

WVU, which has competed in the last six BIG EAST women’s soccer championships, travels to Villanova for one of the tournament’s four quarterfinal matches on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
