6 Valley schools have clinched spots in playoffs
Six Kanawha Valley schools have already locked up spots in the upcoming prep football playoffs and two others remain alive.
In Class AAA, No. 3 Nitro (8-1) has cemented one home playoff game, while No. 9 South Charleston (7-2), No. 12 Hurricane (6-3) and No. 13 Capital (6-3) are all assured of finishing in the top 16 even though they have one regular-season game remaining, according to projects provided by wwva.com.
SC, with a win over Capital, may be able to vault past No. 8 John Marshall (7-2) for a first-round home game. The Monarchs play host to winless Spring Valley Saturday.

St. Albans (5-4), seeking its first playoff game since 1997, remains afloat in the 17th spot but needs to win at Huntington (2-7) on Friday and hope for losses by No. 14 Parkersburg South (6-3), which plays at Nitro, or No. 16 Princeton (6-3), which visits Riverside (4-5).
In AA, No. 4 Herbert Hoover (8-1) has earned at least one home playoff game and could qualify for another with a home win versus No. 14 Winfield (5-4). The Generals control their own destiny, getting into the bottom half of the field by beating the Huskies.
Scott (9-1), currently ranked fifth, could jump into the top four if Hoover falters. Logan (5-4), ranked 12th, has already clinched its first playoff date since 1990.
In Class A, Buffalo (9-0) has already clinched two home games heading into its regular-season finale at Valley (1-8). Hamlin (8-1), which plays host to Harts (3-6) on Friday, is ranked ninth and remains alive for a top-eight spot if it wins.
