But even though trailing 14-0 at halftime, the Crusaders closed the gap to 14-6 by the end of the third quarter, only to see the Yellowjackets intercept three passes in the final period to preseve the victory.
Neverthless, both squads had already clinched playoff berths prior to Friday's last regular-season game, although Williamstown is asssured of playing at home through the first three rounds of post-season action while Catholic's exact playoff location for next weekend's opening-round is yet unknown.
The Jackets (10-0), winding up their fourth straight undefeated regular season, found themselves in a dogfight with the host Crusaders (7-3), although both teams were able to move the football up and down the field to the tune of 642 combined yards, but not produce many points.
Both teams had opportunities in the first quarter, but were denied as Lewis Wingrove sacked PC quarterback Ryan Jones on 4th-and-8 at the Williamstown 32 and Russell Palm missed on a 37-yard field-goal try for the 'Jackets.
In the second stanza after the Crusaders reached the Williamstown 21, but got no further, 'Jacket QB Brandon Roberts aired out a 74-yard scoring strike to Brad Anderson, who snagged the ball at the Catholic 45 and raced into the end zone at 5:03 for a 7-0 lead.
Then after Brad Montgomery intercepted in the end zone with 1:15 left until halftime to thwart a Crusader threat, Roberts took to the air again, hooking up with Matt Sexton on a 51-yard TD toss for a 14-0 advantage with just 17 seconds remaining until intermission.
In the third quarter, a key pass interference call versus Williamstown gave Catholic the ball at the 'Jacket 35 and the Crusaders proceded to score on a two-yard run by Wes Tracewell at the 3:28 mark. But Jordan Goode blocked the ensuing PAT to leave PC behind by eight, 14-6.
The first of the three Williamstown picks in the fourth quarter (and four for the game) set up the 'Jackets' final points. Cody Metz returned his pass theft 39 yards to the Catholic 4, and Tyler Lowers eventually hurtled himself a yard over the goal line with 9:13 to play for a 20-6 bulge.
Then two interceptions by Michael Goertler in the last 7:33 wiped out any chance of a Catholic comeback.
For the game, the Crusaders amassed 26 first downs to just 10 for Williamstown. Jones put the ball in the air 34 times for Catholic, completing 15 for 170 yards, but Roberts threw for 219 of 12-of-16.
Catholic rushed for 172 yards to just 81 for Williamstown.
Tracewell led the PC receivers with eight catches for 89 yards while Anderson had four catches for 91 yards for Williamstown.
