Woodrow Wilson’s Marcus Manns, Nitro’s Josh Culbertson and Riverside’s Nick Veazey shared honors as The Associated Press state high school player of the week on Sunday. Manns rushed for a school-record 334 yards and five touchdowns in 18 carries in a 55-35 win over George Washington. Culbertson rushed 25 times for 327 yards and three TDs in a 42-21 win over Parkersburg South.
He finished with a state record 2,799 yards in the regular season, breaking the mark of 2,417 set by Ryan Life of Parkersburg Catholic. Including the playoffs, Weir’s Quincy Wilson holds the record of 3,262 yards set in 1998. Veazey completed 17-of-30 passes for 390 yards in a 40-33 win over Princeton. He threw scoring passes of 49, 67 and 10 yards and ran 19 yards on an option for another score. | ||
