| Women's Soccer: Kanela Named Scholar All-American By Lainie Guiddy for MSNsportsNET.com December 20, 2005 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s soccer player Marisa Kanela has earned first team Scholar All-America honors from the NSCAA it was announced today. Kanela, a Wantagh, N.Y., native, carries a 3.33 GPA in physical education/teaching education. The Mountaineers’ leading scorer for the past two seasons, Kanela helped West Virginia to its sixth-straight NCAA tournament appearance in 2005. She is a two-time all-conference midfielder who twice earned all-region honors from the coaches association for her on-field performance. The honor is the first academic accolade of Kanela’s career. She is the fifth Mountaineer to earn Scholar All-America honors from the NSCAA. Previously recognized Mountaineers include: Stacey Sollmann (1997), Melissa Haire (2002), Laura Kane (2003, 2004) and Ashley Weimer (2004). |
