MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University running back Steve Slaton was named to the fifth annual Football Writers Association (FWAA) Freshman All-America team, announced today.
Slaton ran for 1,128 yards and 17 touchdowns in helping West Virginia to a 38-35 victory over Georgia in the 2006 Nokia Sugar Bowl played in Atlanta Monday night. Slaton earned Sugar Bowl MVP honors after rushing for 204 yards and scoring three touchdowns against the Bulldogs.
Slaton had a six-touchdown performance against Louisville earlier this season.West Virginia (11-1) is looking for its first top-10 finish in the national polls since the 1993 season.
