Providence, R.I - Louisville's Daniel Burton and Notre Dame's Tom Thornton were crowned BIG EAST baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Feb. 26.

Five of Burton's 11 hits in 21 at bats (.524) last week went for doubles, and he drove in three runs and scored seven for Louisville. He scored the tying and winning runs in an 8-7, extra-inning victory over Northwestern - doubling in both at bats.

Thornton tossed seven shutout innings and struck out five in Notre Dame's season-opening 3-0 win over Indiana State in the Service Academies Classic in Millington, Tenn. The senior lefthander did not walk anyone, and 56 of his 76 pitches went for strikes. It marks the fourth career Pitcher of the Week honor for Thornton, which is tied for third all-time in the BIG EAST. He won it once last season and twice as a sophomore.
