HARTFORD, CONN. – Mountaineer fans wishing to welcome home West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team can do so at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, at the WVU Coliseum Blue Gate when the team is scheduled to arrive back from its remarkable run through the 2006 BIG EAST tournament.

No. 12 seeded West Virginia (15-16, 4-12) became the first team in BIG EAST tournament history to advance to the title game. On the way to the championship contest, WVU knocked off No. 5 Louisville, No. 4 St. John’s and No. 1 Rutgers. The victory over Rutgers (No. 6 nationally) was the highest ranked team the Mountaineers defeated in program history. WVU came up just short against No. 2 seeded Connecticut, falling 50-44.

Junior Britney Davis-White and sophomore Chakhia Cole garnered all-BIG EAST tournament team accolades.
