BUCKHANNON, W.Va.—Junior Josh Norman (Wheeling) (1-0) struck out 12 batters and allowed just four hits in a complete game 1-0 shutout of Mansfield University on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats split their first home games at Hank Ellis Field, dropping game two, 8-3.

A Christian Rosado (Deltona, Fla.) RBI single was all Norman needed in the opener. Nick Newberry (Peterstown) led off the game with a single to left and was moved over to second when Justin Rozich (Elkins) grounded out to third. Newberry then advanced to third when Eric Stettnisch (Woodbury, N.J.) flew out to right. Rosado’s two-out single to right center plated Newberry and gave the Bobcats the one and only run they needed to earn their first victory of 2006.

Josh retired the Mansfield hitters in order in three of his seven innings. He also struck out the side in the top of the first after allowing a lead-off single.

Newberry and Rosado were each 2-for-3 in the game.

Adam Lorson (1-1) took the loss. Lorson threw all six Mansfield innings. He also allowed just four hits.

In game two the Mansfield bats came alive scoring a run in the first, three in the second, and four in the third to top the ‘Cats, 8-3.

Matt Allegretto (1-1) picked up the win while Aaron Gallagher (Bridgeport) (0-1) took the loss.

Center fielder Ryan Wyland and shortstop Ryan Giblin had two hits apiece for the Mansfield. Three other Mounties recorded two RBI each to pace the offensive attack.

Newberry picked up another hit in game two to finish the afternoon 3-for-5.

Junior Jake Driggers (Plant City, Fla.) was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Driggers has hit safely in two of his three at-bats this season. Both hits and all three of his RBI have come in pinch-hitting roles.

Senior Justin Rozich drove in the Bobcats’ other two runs with a two-run homerun to left field in the fifth.

Wesleyan travels to Ormond Beach, Florida, next week. The Bobcats will play 12 games in eight days from March 11 through March 18.
