1 Wyoming East tops James Monroe Staff reports


LINDSIDE — Justin Shrewbury scored 21 points as Class AA No. 1 Wyoming East rolled to a 73-60 win over James Monroe on Friday night.

Justin Caldwell and Cory Willard added 17 points apiece for the Warriors. Cory Bradley led James Monroe with 26 points, followed by Matt Bumgardner with 15.

Wyoming East hosts Summers County at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Mullens Middle School, while the Mavericks will play PikeView in the opening round of the sectionals on Tuesday at Princeton High School.

PRINCETON — The Cavaliers dropped a decision to the Mustangs on Friday night. No other information was available on the game.

Mercer Christian, which is still winless on the season, will travel to Mount View tonight.



Pipestem 68, Fairhaven 38

BRADLEY — Houston Peyton scored 21 points and Kyle Kinzer added 20, leading Pipestem Christian to a WVCEA semifinal win over Fairhaven Christian on Friday evening at Appalachian Bible College.

PCA (22-4) will play for the WVCEA state championship at ABC today at noon against Rainelle Christian.

Josh Smith paced Fairhaven with 18 points.

BRADLEY — Eighth grader Miranda Norman outscored Seneca Trail by herself, leading Pipestem Christian to a WVCEA semifinal win over Friday at Appalachian Bible College.

Norman scored 27 points for PCA (11-2), which will play Fairhaven Christian today at 10 a.m. for the state title. Brittany Mansfield added 15 points, while another eighth grader — Jackie Sexton — tossed in 11.

Tori Marshall scored nine points for Seneca Trail.
