WVC Announces Players Of The Week

Softball Player of the Week:
Meagan James, Glenville State, Jr., 3B, St. Albans, WV: James helped Glenville State to a 3-1 week, including the program's first-ever win against WVIAC power West Virginia Wesleyan...The junior batted .583 for the week with seven runs batted...She also contributed a pair of doubles as GSC improved to 10-6 in league play.

Other nominees: Shepherd's Amy Edmondson (3-8, 2 RBI), Bluefield State's Bev Netusil (5-9, 2 HR, 8 RBI), Charleston's Cindy Zander (9-17, 2 2B), and Fairmont State's Deana Groves (5-9).

Softball Pitcher of the Week:
Andrea Lewis, Charleston, Sr., Sissonville, WV: Lewis continued her dominance in league action with 46 strikeouts during a 6-0 week...She notched a pair of shutouts last Monday against Fairmont State and fanned 21 hitters in a twinbill sweep of Alderson-Broaddus...For the week, Lewis contributed an 0.95 earned run average for the league-leading Golden Eagles.

Other nominees: Fairmont State's Alyssa Childers (win over A-B) and Shepherd's Becca Jacobs (two-hit shutout against Wilmington).

Baseball Players of the Week:
Dan Delsignore, Pitt Johnstown, Jr., 2B, Johnstown, PA/Seth Fluharty, Wheeling Jesuit, Soph., C/DH, Wintersville, OH: Delsignore went 7-for-9 in a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit with six runs scored and three doubles...He also added a triple to finish the twinbill with four extra-base hits...Fluharty keyed Wheeling Jesuit's two-game sweep of then divisional leader Salem International...The sophomore notched 6 hits in 11 at-bats with a pair of doubles and a home run in three contests on the week...He also added five runs batted in for the Cardinals.

Other nominees: Shepherd's Josh Wenderoth (8-19, 7 RBI), Bluefield State's Jason Redden (5-15, 3 RBI), Ohio Valley's Andrew Lore (6-10, 5 RBI), and Fairmont State's Tyler Nunn (4-14, 7 RBI).

Baseball Pitchers of the Week:
Kenny Reisinger, Shepherd, Fr., Ickesburg, PA/Eduardo Castro, Alderson-Broaddus, Sr., Holtville, CA: Reisinger hurled a complete-game two-hitter in Friday's 9-1 win over Davis & Elkins...He allowed a lone run and struck out four for the Rams in a divisional victory...Castro completed a five-hit effort in Friday's key 2-1 divisional win over Fairmont State...He struck out five and walked none in the 88-pitch outing.

Other nominees: Bluefield State's Jay Thomas (3 SV, 5K in 41/3 IP), Fairmont State's Tony Magnanelli (8 K in 2-1 loss to A-B), Wheeling Jesuit's Vince Licursi (4.1 IP, 2 SV, 0 ER), and Ohio Valley's Brad Linch (win against WV State).
Four WVC Clubs In Regional Top 10

Four West Virginia Conference baseball squads are still a part of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region top 10.

West Virginia State remains fourth in the ranking after a two-game split at 2006 WVIAC Tournament champion Ohio Valley. Alderson-Broaddus moves up to #6 following a two-game sweep of Fairmont State.

Seton Hill is tied for seventh after the Griffins dropped a pair of mid-week contests to fifth-ranked California (PA). Concord is still ninth after the Mountain Lions halved a two-game set with West Liberty State.
