| Men's Basketball: WVU Falls at Notre Dame MSNsportsNET.com January 3, 2008 SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Luke Harangody had career highs of 29 points and 16 rebounds to lead Notre Dame to a 69-56 victory over West Virginia Thursday night at the Joyce Center. Notre Dame (11-2) held West Virginia to a season-low 56 points on a season-worst 31.9 percent shooting. West Virginia (10-3), losers of two straight for the first time this year, got 18 points and five rebounds from junior Alex Ruoff. He was the only WVU player to reach double figures. Joe Mazzulla and John Flowers came off the bench to combine for 15 points. West Virginia led 14-11 when Joe Alexander made a pair of free throws. But after starting the game making 4-of-10 from the field, the Irish made 9-of-10. Ryan Ayers ignited the 22-8 run with a pair of 3-pointers. Harangody had six points during the run and Zach Hillesland had four, including a slam dunk that brought the crowd to its feet. The Irish won their 29th straight at home and their ninth straight overall. West Virginia lost its second straight and fell to 5-8 in Big East openers. The Mountaineers return to the Coliseum on Sunday to face No. 10 Marquette in a Big East game that will tip off at 2 p.m. |
