Shrewsbury earns medalist honors at prep golf tourney

WHEELING — Parkersburg South, Grafton and Wheeling Central won team championships in their respective classes at the state high school golf championships Wednesday at Oglebay Resort.

Defending champion Parkersburg South finished 15 strokes ahead of University and 24 ahead of John Marshall in Class AAA. Parkersburg South’s Ben Palmer took individual medalist honors by one stroke over John Marshall’s Carson Schambach.

In Class AA, Grafton defended its team championship by 32 strokes over Ritchie County. Ravenswood was third. James Monroe’s Phillip Shrewsbury earned medalist honors over Logan’s Patton Couch.

Led by medalist Joey Seabright, Wheeling Central finished nine strokes ahead of Charleston Catholic in Class A. Williamstown was third. Jason Holstein of Charleston Catholic finished eight strokes behind Seabright in individual play.
