BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

James Monroe 79, Summers County 63

HINTON — Cory Bradley drilled eight 3-point goals and scored 36 points, 22 in the second quarter, to lift the Mavericks.

Ernie Tincher added 14 points for James Monroe (6-1), which plays at Giles County (Va.) Monday.

Andrew Gunnoe scored 23 points, followed by Mark Stiltner with 14 and Cameron Mann with 12 for Summers (1-3).

The Bobcats host Shady Spring Thursday.

RICHWOOD — The Lumberjacks recorded their first win of the season with a convincing victory over the Grizzlies.

Travis Sarver and David King scored 24 points apiece for Richwood.

Levi Spencer had 14 points for Nicholas County.

Richwood (1-5) plays at Greenbrier West Friday.

MOUNT HOPE — The Mustangs improved to 3-2 on the season behind 17 points from Channing Lowe, 16 from Jamel Shelton and 15 from Davon Marion.

Midland Trail’s Dustin Nickell scored 15 in the loss.

Mount Hope (3-2) plays at Fayetteville Friday while Trail (5-2) is at Shady Spring.

Independence 51, Greater Beckley Christian 39

Kayla Pysz scored 19 points and Melissa Billings had eight to lift the Patriots over the Crusaders.

Jill Rogers had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Angela Carbaugh scored 15 for Greater Beckley (1-5).

The Crusaders host Liberty Thursday. Independence (5-3) returns home to face Shady Spring Friday.

Stephanie Nickell pumped in 13 points and Carla Rhodes had 10 to lead the Pirates to victory.

Heather Stanford paced Liberty with 12 points while Kahra Daniel scored 11.

Liberty (0-9) plays Greater Beckley Christian at 7 p.m Thursday.

Fayetteville (6-1) plays in the finals of the Valley Invitational today.
