Lady Vols Need Overtime To Get By Arkansas

Fayetteville, Arkansas -- Tennessee's Candace Parker scored 29 points and the second-ranked Volunteers dodged a huge upset bid with a 75-68 overtime victory over Arkansas. In Thursday's game at Fayetteville, Alexis Hornbuckle added 12 points for Tennessee, including four straight free throws late in the extra period that sealed the win.

The victory extended Tennessee's winning streak to nine games and gave the Volunteers a 26-and-two overall record. Tennessee is unbeaten in 13 Southeastern Conference games. Arkansas has now lost eight in a row, falling to 18-11, 3-10 in the SEC.

Tennessee led 62-59 with less than 15 seconds left in regulation when Arkansas was forced to foul Shannon Bobbitt. The 5-2 guard missed the front end of a one-and-one and Arkansas rebounded. Dominique Washington's three-pointer missed, but the ball was knocked back to her for an open three-pointer to tie it at 62.

Parker's long shot at the end of regulation rimmed out and the game headed for overtime. Washington scored 21 points, all on three-pointers, for Arkansas. Tanisha Smith added 13 points and Lauren Ervin eleven.
