Using a 17-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter, Morgantown went on to defeat Martinsburg 63-45 to advance in the WVSSAC Girls Basketball State Tournament.

In the fourth quarter, both teams exchanged baskets before the Mohigans (20-4) imposed their will on the Bulldogs highlighted by a Brooke Andrews drive for a layup. Andrews was fouled on the play and hit the free throw to put Morgantown up 50-37 with 6:22 to play.

Martinsburg (12-12) tried to stage a comeback cutting the deficit to 9 at 52-41 after a Shaniece Nunn three with 5:01 left in the game. Morgantown answered right back with Tara Napoleo hitting for two and extending the lead back to 11 just thirty seconds later.

Morgantown then rolled to the lopsided victory.

In the third quarter, Morgantown opened their biggest lead of the game at seven after a Cynthia Fullard tip in. Fullard was fouled on the play and hit the bonus free throw to open up a 40-33 lead at 5:36.

The Mohigans then broke things open upping their lead to 47-35 with 2:43 left in the third for a 12 point advantage after a Stephanie Michael three. Morgantown was well on the way to victory with the 47-35 lead at the end of three.

The game was close in the first half with Morgantown trailing by as many as 14 points. The Mohigans closed the gap and managed to take the lead at the break with Napoleo hitting a lay up as time expired.

Morgantown was led by Fullard with 14 points and nine rebounds with Tiaa Ferrebee contributing 13. Martinsburg was paced by Iesha Robinson with a game high 15 points with Dakeea Marshall adding 13 buckets and 13 rebounds.

Morgantown hit 25 of 60 (42%) and was 3 of 10 from outside the arc. From the charity stripe, the Mohigans finished 10 of 14 (71%).

Martinsburg shot 16 of 52 (31%) from the field and was 3 of 13 from three. On the line the Bulldogs were 10 of 17 (59%).

Morgantown advances to play the Parkersburg South/Nitro winner at 9:00 p.m. on Friday.
