Game Headlines: Day 2, March 15, 2007




Wyoming East Easily Advances Past Oak Hill Wyoming East showed why they are the number one seed in Class AA throttling the No. 8 seed Oak Hill Red Devils 68-43 to advance on to play Winfield at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.

The Warriors only trailed once in the ballgame, 2-1 at 6:16 of the first quarter. Early on it looked like Oak Hill might hang around with Josh Murray going 3 of 3 from beyond the arc in the first period to stay close at the end of the frame at 15-13.

South Charleston Wears Down Woodrow In Class AAANo. 2 seed South Charleston methodically wore down the No. 7 Flying Eagles to take a 67-55 victory to advance on to the Class AAA semifinal. Charleston will face Morgantown on Friday night at 9:00p.m.

After building a five point lead after the first quarter, the Black Eagles quickly ballooned their advantage to 11 and went on to take a 10 point edge to the break.

Winfield Takes Down Lincoln To Advance In Class AAAfter falling behind early in the game, No. 5 seed Winfield rebounded late in the second quarter and came out on fire in the third to take down No. 5 Lincoln 71-61 advancing to the Class AA semifinal game.

The Generals trailed the entire first half but stayed in the contest fighting back from a 12 point deficit in the second quarter to go into the locker room tied at 31. Caleb Ashley drained a three with 22 seconds until the break to knot the score.

Magnolia Wins Thriller Against BluefieldIn perhaps the most exciting game of the tournament thus far, No. 7 seed Magnolia shocked No. 2 Bluefield 51-48 to advance in the Class AA tournament.

Both teams played clutch basketball down the stretch matching each other basket for basket. In the end it was pressure free throws that decided the game after five ties and five lead changes during the final period.

Morgantown Upsets Capital

It came down to free throws at the end as No. 6 seed Morgantown upset No. 3 Capital to advance on in the Class AAA tournament. The Mohigans will face the winner of the South Charleston/Woodrow Wilson match up on Friday at 9:00 p.m.

At the end of the third quarter, J.T. Lewis nailed a three to put Morgantown up by one heading into the final frame. Morgantown would not relinquish the lead again holding off the Cougars by hitting crucial shots at the foul line.

Logan Easily Advances To Class AA Semifinal

No. 3 seed Logan only trailed once the entire ballgame at 2-0 before throttling No. 6 Petersburg 60-42 to move on in the Class AA State Tournament. The game changed in the second quarter after the Wildcats took a 6-4 lead after the first.

Logan scored the first eleven points of the second period sparked by the hot hand of sharp shooting Brett Sorrell hitting two three pointers to open up a 13 point advantage. By the time halftime rolled around the Wildcats were in command leading 22-9.
