Through the first nine practice sessions of West Virginia’s spring football drills, Mountaineer head coach Rich Rodriguez has been pretty happy with the effort provided by his team. But Rodriguez definitely wasn’t happy with Day No. 10.

After Wednesday’s practice, Rodriguez said he wasn’t pleased with any aspect of his team’s performance that day.

The Mountaineers will have one more chance to please their coach before taking a week off as the University goes on Spring Break from March 24-31. WVU will hold its third officiated scrimmage of the spring on Thursday afternoon, and Rodriguez hopes the weather will cooperate so his team can practice outside, and thus do some full-speed special teams work. Various bouts of snow and rain kept West Virginia inside the Capertorn Indoor Practice Facility for a number of practices this spring, and while the building works fine for most aspects of practice, its ceiling is a little low for full out kicking.

Weather wasn’t a problem on Wednesday, though, as temperatures in the mid-60s and an overcast sky made for a perfect practice day. The weather forecast for Thursday’s scrimmage calls for temperatures slightly warmer but the threat of rain.

The Mountaineer football players will get a week off during the University’s Spring Break, but they will reassemble on April 1 for one final week of practice. WVU’s spring practice will culminate on April 7 with the annual Gold/Blue Spring Scrimmage. That contest, which will start at 12:30 p.m., is the only session of the spring open to the public.
