James Monroe struggles to 8-0 record

LINDSIDE - For the second straight year, James Monroe had a fight on its hand from Point Pleasant, but the Mavericks pulled out the 16-14 win on Friday night at the H.E. Comer Jr. Sports Complex. James Monroe pulled out a hard-fought 21-14 decision last season against Black Knights.

Andrew Robertson ran for the Mavericks' opening touchdown from four yards out en route to 134 yards on 24 carries. Jason Jackson added a difference-making two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and ended the game with 71 yards on 12 carries. Dalton Pritt added a 25-yard field goal to give the Mavs a 16-7 lead at the break.

While Point Pleasant drops to 3-6, James Monroe remained undefeated at 8-0, and will travel next Friday to Bluefield, in a game with playoff seedings at stake for the Mavericks.
