The Northeast Region
The West Virginia Conference will compete within the Northeast Region during the 2005 season. The NCAA realigned the regional structure in 2004 as part of increasing the Division II playoff field from 16 to 24 squads.
The newly configured Northeast Region contains the WVIAC, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and the Northeast-10 Conference. Six playoff spots will be alotted from all four regions across the country (Northeast, South, Northwest, and Southwest) into the NCAA Division II Football championship.
2004 introduced "earned access" into the Division II football lexicon. Earned access assures any league with a team in the final regional top ten of a playoff spot. The highest ranked squad in a conference receives earned access regardless of conference standing.
The regional rankings are compiled by the NCAA Division II Football Committee with assistance from the Northeast Region Advisory Committee. Each conference within the region has two members of the RAC.
West Chester was last season's regional champion as the Golden Rams took wins over C.W. Post, Shippensburg, and East Stroudsburg before falling to eventual national champion Valdosta State in the national semifinals. Bentley and Edinboro also made the playoffs out of the Northeast Region.
Shepherd, who was rated 12th, was the lone WVIAC squad to be listed in the final 2004 Northeast Region ranking. The Rams were the last conference squad to appear in the playoffs when they fell 21-14 to Millersville in the 1999 post-season.

Current Regional Rankings:
1. Bloomsburg (PA) 8-0
2. East Stroudsburg (PA) 6-1
3. Shepherd 8-0
4. C.W. Post (NY) 5-2
5. Bentley (MA) 6-2
6. West Chester (PA) 6-2

8. Southern Connecticut State 5-2
9. Bryant (RI) 5-2
10. American International (MA) 3-3
