  • Winfield tops Hurricane at Poca tourney


  • Natalie Kline had 16 points and 12 rebounds as Winfield defeated Hurricane 51-35 Tuesday in the BB&T Classic at Poca High School.

    Bre Kyle added 14 points, and sophomore point guard Katie Cloxton had nine assists for Winfield (6-1). Allison Brown scored 12 and Morgan Meeks added 11 for Redskins.

    The Generals play Friday night against the winner of Tuesday’s Buffalo-Poca game.

    WIRT 57, GUYAN VALLEY 38: The Tigers outscored cold-shooting Guyan Valley 16-0 in the third quarter at the Wahama tournament. Carlee Cox led Wirt (4-3) with 20 points, followed by Megan Alltop 12 and Shannell Watson 11. Lacy Davidson led all scorers with 22 points, more than half of the points for Guyan Valley (4-4).

    GREENBRIER EAST 58, PRINCETON 57: Dania Crump hit the final two free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt with 18 seconds left to win it for the host Spartans. Crump had 14 points and eight steals in the win for Greenbrier East (6-0).

    Ashley Parker added 16 points and six blocks for the Spartans.

    Catherine Staten scored 17 points for Princeton (2-1), with Laura Whitt adding 15 points. The Tigers had a desperation 3-point attempt with 2 seconds left, but the shot was no good.
