ST. JOHN'S ENDS NO. 9/9 PITTSBURGH'S UNDEFEATED SEASON, 55-50
Lamont Hamilton matched his career high with 24 points and St. John's knocked No. 9 Pittsburgh from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 55-50 victory Saturday, the Red Storm's second straight win over a Top 25 team. The victory came on the day St. John's honored 10 of its former players and coaches in a halftime ceremony, and the performance against the Panthers was certainly reminiscent of some great wins from the past at Madison Square Garden. Hamilton made two free throws with 12 seconds left to give the Red Storm (10-6, 3-2) a 53-50 lead. Pitt's Carl Krauser missed a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left and Phil Missere rebounded the miss and made two free throws with 4.3 seconds left for the final margin.
