The 2006 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship Presented by Aeropostale is slated for Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 8-11. The "World's Most Famous Arena" has been the host of the championship since 1983 - the longest running tournament at one venue of any conference in the country!

The format will continue as in previous years, with 12 member institutions participating and seeding based on regular season finish. The top four squads in the league standings will earn first-round byes.

The BIG EAST Tournament Champion earns the league's automatic bid to the 65-team NCAA Championship field. The entire BIG EAST Championship will be televised by ESPN and ESPN2. ESPN will carry 10 of the 11 games.

Syracuse, the No. 3 seed, took home the crown last year, stopping eighth-seeded West Virginia in the championship game, 68-59. It was the Mountaineers' first appearance in the finals. Syracuse forward Hakim Warrick was named the winner of the Dave Gavitt Trophy as Most Outstanding Player
