Charleston
The 2006 West Virginia girls’ high school basketball tournament tips off on Wednesday, March 8 at the Charleston Civic Center, as eight teams in each of the three classes will compete for the three state championship titles.
This past Friday, the WVSSAC released the seedings for this year’s state tournament. This is the second year the tournament has been seeded once the regional winners reach Charleston.
Defending state champ Morgantown will enter the tourney as the No. 1 seed in Class AAA, while Winfield is the top seed in Class AA, and Charleston Catholic is the No. 1 seed in Class A.
The tournament will start on Wednesday, March 8 and will conclude with the three championship games on Saturday, March 11. MetroNews will broadcast all 21 games from the Charleston Civic Center. Those broadcasts can be heard around the state on various MetroNews affiliate or live over the Internet at www.WVStateTournament.com. The Class AAA championship game will also be televised live by MetroNews. The boys’ high school state tournament will follow the same format and will run from March 15-18 in Charleston.

No. 1 Morgantown vs. No. 8 Fairmont Senior, Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.

No. 3 Parkersburg South vs. No. 6 Bridgeport, Thursday at 11:15 a.m.
No. 4 Greenbrier East vs. No. 5 Hedgesville, Wednesday at 11:15 a.m.
Semifinals
Morgantown/Fairmont Senior winner vs.Greenbrier East/Hedgesville, Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Parkersburg South/Bridgeport winner vs. Huntington/G.W. winner, Friday at 9 p.m.
Finals
Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
