CONWAY, S.C. – The West Virginia University baseball team lost to Furman, 5-4, on Friday, March 3, in the Mountaineers’ first game at the Coastal Carolina Tournament in Conway, S.C. In the bottom of the ninth with two outs and two runners aboard, Paladin pitcher Nick Hollstegge fanned Casey Bowling to end the Mountaineers' comeback attempt to pick up his third save of the season. WVU (5-2) snapped a 2-2 tie in a two-run seventh by capitalizing on Furman mistakes. Redshirt freshman Adam White led the inning off with a double. Second baseman Tyler Kuhn dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move White to third, but Paladin third baseman Joe Daysh’s throw wasn’t accurate, allowing Kuhn to go to second and White to score on the error. Kyle Matuszek later knocked in Kuhn on a single to shallow center field to give the Mountaineers a 4-2 lead. Matuszek finished the game 3 for 5 on the afternoon with a double and one RBI. But the Paladins answered in the bottom of the inning. Trailing 4-3 with two men on, Furman shortstop A.J.
