Glenville Sweeps WVC Women's Postseason Awards

WVIAC unbeaten Glenville State has carried off all of the league's top women's basketball honors. WVIAC career scoring leader Rachel Redick earned Player of the Year accolades and teammate Melanie Oliver was named as the top freshman. Lady Pioneer head coach Steve Harold was honored with his third WVIAC Coach of the Year award. All awards are voted on by the league's head women's basketball coaches.

Redick became the WVIAC's all-time leading scorer in women's basketball during #3 Glenville State's win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday. The 5-8 Franklin, PA native has tallied 2,261 points during her GSC career heading into the post-season to break the record set last season by Charleston's Lisa Lee.

The senior guard is a three-time first team All-WVIAC selection and is the lone active player named to the conference's 25th anniversary all-time squad last month. Her 20.6 points per game rank second in the WVIAC. Redick also stands among the league's top ten in assists ( 4.2), free throw percentage (.856), steals (2.1), three point field goal percentage (.432), and three point field goals per game (3.2).

Oliver has made an immediate impact for Glenville State's inside game, averaging 10.3 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game. The 5-11 Glen Allen, VA native also leads GSC and ranks among the WVIAC's best with six double-doubles.

Harold has directed the 27-2 Lady Pioneers to new heights as they currently hold the third spot in national top 25. The Glenville native owns a 256-106 record in his 12th season as the head coach at his alma mater. The Lady Pioneers have won 20 or more contests in eight straight seasons, including a current streak of six consecutive years with 24-plus victories.

Redick is among five players that are repeat selections from last season's All-WVIAC first team. Teammates Lena Kalvans and Charity Street from West Liberty State have been honored for a second straight season. West Virginia Wesleyan senior guard Sarah Grab also is on the top squad again, along with Charleston senior Courtney Thomas.

Casey Taylor (Glenville State), Jeannie Saunders (Salem International), Danielle Cornish (Fairmont State), and Sarah Van Horn (West Virginia Wesleyan) complete the nine-player first team All-WVIAC contingent.

League newcomer Pitt Johnstown has a pair of second team selections in Allison Krischer and Jessica Zapf. Jamie Cluesman and Samm Nester represent Concord on the second squad. 2006 WVIAC Freshman of the Year Britney Brooks (Ohio Valley), Laura Harkins (Shepherd), Rachel Pike (Charleston), and Katie Repicky (Wheeling Jesuit) round out the All-WVIAC second team.

Oliver is joined on the league's All-Freshman squad by Jaimie Merinar (Fairmont State), Katie Lintner (Seton Hill), Stephanie Phatiphong (Alderson-Broaddus), and Yulonda Thornton (Salem International). Lintner, the conference's rebounding leader, is the first Seton Hill women's basketball player to be honored by the WVIAC.
