WVC Women's Tournament Begins Monday



All games are Monday at 7:30 p.m.

***#14 Davis & Elkins (4-23) at #3 West Liberty State (18-9): West Liberty looks to shake off back-to-back losses to end the regular season when Davis & Elkins pays a visit...WLSC is 9-0 at home this season, including a 90-38 drubbing of Davis & Elkins...The Toppers have reached at least the conference tournament semifinals in their past 13 trips...1st team All-WVIAC selections Lena Kalvans (17.9 ppg) and Charity Street (15.7 ppg) lead WLSC...Davis & Elkins brings a 13-game losing skid into the contest...Courtney Pawlak's 14.1 ppg pace the Senators.

***#13 West Virginia State (4-23) at #4 Concord (19-8): A victory gives Concord what is believed to be the school's first 20-win season...The Lady Lions' fourth place regular season finish is the program's best in WVIAC play, eclipsing a fifth place standing in 1990...CU is paced by second team All-WVIAC picks Jamie Cluesman (10.2 ppg, 7.1 apg) and Samm Nester (14.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg)...State closed the regular season with 13 losses in their final 14 contests...LaSha' Anderson's 9.5 points per game leads the Jacket offense...Concord won both regular season meetings 72-58 and 65-52.

***#12 Alderson-Broaddus (4-22) at #5 Fairmont State (18-9): A rematch of a contest from Thursday is on tap in Fairmont...Danielle Cornish's 19 points helped Fairmont State erase a four-point halftime deficit in a 61-48 win at Philippi...Alderson-Broaddus has dropped their past seven WVIAC Tournament first round contests...Cornish tops Fairmont State in scoring with 16.0 points per game...Molly Kiger adds 11.3 ppg for FSU...Alderson-Broaddus gets 12.4 ppg from Kim Nakamura...Battler head coach Josh Allen was part of three WVIAC Tournament championship men's squads at A-B and was the 2004 tournament MVP.

***#11 Bluefield State (7-20) at #6 Wheeling Jesuit (16-11): Wheeling Jesuit has won their last seven WVIAC Tournament first round contests...Visiting Bluefield State has not advanced out of the tournament's opening round since 1998...WJU has won at least 11 WVIAC regular season contests each season under head coach Joe Key...Senior Katie Repicky (16.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg) paces the Cardinals...BSC receives 13.9 points and 8.4 rebounds from Jennetta Smith...Repicky's 22 points helped Wheeling Jesuit avoid an upset in last month's 75-69 overtime decision over Bluefield State...The Lady Blues were paced by Shamatee Mitchell's 15 points in defeat.

***#10 Ohio Valley (9-18) at #7 Shepherd (17-10): The Lady Scots and Rams meet for the second time in three days...Shepherd won 90-55 on Saturday behind Krissy Grosselin's 21 points...SU also won the first meeting between the teams 69-54 on the road...Each team claims a second team All-WVIAC honoree...Ohio Valley's Britney Brooks leads her team with 17.1 points and 5.2 assists per game...Shepherd center Laura Harkins averages 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per outing...The Rams have been successful in advancing following their past eight first round matchups.

***#9 West Virginia Wesleyan (11-15) at #8 Salem International (11-15): Three of the WVIAC's top five scorers will take the court at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium...SIU boasts the league's leading scorer in Jeannie Saunders (22.1 ppg)...Saunders also contributes 5.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game for the Tigers...Wesleyan's Sarah Grab (19.1 ppg) and Sarah Van Horn (18.1 ppg) are the third and fifth leading scorers in the WVIAC...Salem is 10-3 since mid-January, including a current four-game win streak...WVWC has won five of six entering the post-season...The Tigers rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to win the regular season meeting versus Wesleyan 80-77.
