Glenville State women play Wednesday in NCAA Division II Elite Eight
KEARNEY, Neb. -- Glenville State's (33-2) pursuit of a national title starts with West Regional champion UC San Diego (26-4) in the Elite Eight opener from the Health & Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Kearney. The No. 2 Pioneers (33-2) bring a 27-game winning streak into Wednesday's 1 p.m. contest.

Glenville State is led by 5-foot-8 senior Rachel Redick, the West Virginia Conference and East Region Player of the Year, who has tallied 2,392 points in her career.

UC-San Diego's 5-8 star Leora Juster became the fifth player in California Colleigate Athletic Association history to cross the 2,000-point barrier after a 19-point, 10-assist effort against Chico State in the West Region championship tilt.

Redick has scored in double digits during 33 of GSC's 35 contests this season and averages 20.8 points and 4.3 assists per game. Juster, the CCAA and West Region Player of the Year, leads her team with 22.6 points and 4.4 assists per game.

Casey Taylor and Melanie Oliver each were named to the All-East Region Tournament squad and average scoring in double figures for Glenville State. Taylor, a finalist for Kodak All-America honors, gives the Pioneers 15.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Oliver, the WVC Freshman of the Year, leads GSC in rebounding at 7.7 per game and adds 10.7 points off the bench.

Her 10-point, nine-rebound effort was instrumental in the 65-59 regional final victory against Indiana (Pa.).

Point guard Lauren Strong, Karina Kendrick and Christy Alltop round out the Glenville starting lineup. Strong is one of the East Region's top defenders. Kendrick has enjoyed a solid post-season with

All-WVIAC Tournament accolades and a career-high seven blocked shots in the

regional semifinal win over Anderson. Alltop provides outside shooting with

a made three-pointer in 10 of her last 11 contests.

The game will be broadcast on 104.7 WVRC-FM in Central West Virginia or on

the web at www.gscpioneers.com.
