MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Northeast Baseball Review tabbed the West Virginia University baseball team No. 10 in its weekly poll on Monday, March 6.
UNC-Wilmington holds the No. 1 spot in this week’s poll with a 10-3 record. Besides WVU, the BIG EAST’s Notre Dame (No. 4) and Pitt (No. 5) are also ranked.
The Mountaineers (6-3) are off to their best start since 1998 after going 1-2 at the Coastal Carolina tournament March 3-5, in Conway, S.C. WVU dropped its first game of the weekend to Furman on Friday, 5-4, before rebounding with a 10-3 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The team then dropped its final game at Charles Watson Stadium, 8-1, to the Chanticleers on Sunday.
West Virginia opens a 19-game home stand Tuesday, March 7, when it hosts Niagara (3-6) at Hawley Field in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
